
Mission
The mission of the IAPA is to educate stakeholders, provide services, and advocate (raise awareness) for policies, programs, and projects that ensures Iowa can effectively compete in today’s global marketplace; help preserve Iowa’s place as a top Agriculture product exporting state; strengthen the ability of Iowa’s modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland, partnership ports to serve their national and global customers; and create economic and social value for their inland coastal communities and businesses; and support the objectives of the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Purpose
Help protect the integrity of Iowa’s supply chain.
Represent the collective interests of Iowa’s inland ports and shipyards and advocate (raise awareness) at the state, federal and global levels, to influence, policies, regulations, and funding decisions.
Promote Iowa’s regional ports and shipyards as key drivers of trade, industry, infrastructure (man-made and natural) development, sustainability and job creation, strengthening the state’s economy.
Work to secure investments for multimodal port infrastructure, dredging, ecosystem restoration, and other modernization projects.
Provide a platform for Iowa and nearby regional ports, and neighboring state port associations to share best practices, coordinate on common challenges, and foster public-private partnerships.
Enhance the regional integration of waterways, with rail, road and air for a modern and efficient supply chain.
Support industry led efforts to accelerate and enable supply chain operations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while reducing transportation costs and risks.
Support cruise boats and other recreational uses of the regional inland port system.
Support the Corn Belt Ports Green Marine Highway Initiative.
Work with the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Maritime Administration (U.S. DOT), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Economic Development Administration, the Mississippi River Commission, other federal organizations, and state organizations on behalf of Iowa’s modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland, partnership ports as approved and directed by the board.
Work with professional and trade organizations on behalf of Iowa’s modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland, partnership ports as approved and directed by the board. This includes, but is not limited to: American Association of Port Authorities, National Waterways Conference, Waterways Council, Inc., Corn Belt Ports, Upper Mississippi Waterway Association, Midwest Levee Association, We Work the Waterways, River Action Inc.,
Work with state and multi-state organizations on behalf of Iowa’s modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland, partnership ports as approved and directed by the board.
Work with adjacent state port associations on areas of mutual interest on behalf of Iowa’s modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland, partnership ports as approved and directed by the board.
Work of the Association can involve inland multi-modal ports, navigation access channels and structures, public docks and terminals, flood infrastructure (man-made and natural), aquatic and floodplain habitats, hydropower, recreation, water supply, sedimentation, water quality and other areas as approved and directed by the board.
Such other purposes as the members may unanimously agree upon.
Support riverfront communities and businesses in advancing multimodal transportation, natural, energy, communications, and related water resources infrastructure to reduce supply chain costs and risks and expand global markets. Annual membership is $250.00, lifetime membership is $2,500.00.
